Dignity (Made New)

Dignity. Now there’s another concept.

(Back to depth, loyal readers, later.)

This one, well, David Brooks thinks it’s another thing that Barrack Obama has really got goin’ on.

… there is the fact of President Obama. Whatever policy differences people may have with him, we can all agree that he exemplifies reticence, dispassion and the other traits associated with dignity. The cultural effects of his presidency are not yet clear, but they may surpass his policy impact. He may revitalize the concept of dignity for a new generation and embody a new set of rules for self-mastery.

Self-mastery.

Of course there was this, the time he flipped Hillary off.

Or all the stuff like this that went on at Trinity United.

Or the classy campaigns that David Axelrod always runs, you know, where the opponent’s divorce records always get conveniently unsealed.

And just that whole generally dignified Chicago political scene that Obama and Blago were part of.

Oh, well, I guess we’re talking about the new dignity.
