Spilled religion,

that’s what Matthew Arnold called poetry, right? And the sentiment has been extended to art in general. This nice new article by Roger Kimball argues against that notion and in the process makes too many good points to quote or even count. Kimball is such a bright guy and fluid writer that I forgive him for always being photographed in a bow tie. I think he might be a second cousin to George Will or something. Tryin’ to lend sartorial support to his cuz. How else can you explain something like that?
Anyway, the article was published, as I hope you’ll discover, in First Things, but I found it via Real Clear Politics. It seems a little bit of an odd choice for that site. However, I’m grateful they linked it.
